Rohan Samaraweera leads the Data Science branch at the Department Of Home Affairs where he works to mature, modernise and broaden Department artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science capabilities. Under his leadership the branch has evolved into an agile and adaptive team leveraging the unique data, expertise, and intersecting missions within the Department to create public good. The branch continues to expand its analytics capabilities and services to support a broader range of portfolio areas, domestic and international partners.
Prior to joining Home Affairs, Rohan had a career as a Signals Intelligence Officer with the Australian Signals Directorate, operating in the nexus between data, technology and intelligence tradecraft in support of military and counter-terrorism operations.

With a wealth of experience in digital and AI strategy, Rita has delivered thought leadership on topics such as Generative AI, AI in Cyber Security, and AI for Climate Tech. She has launched the AI Industry Connection forum to connect companies interested in emerging AI with the cutting-edge research and the AI Industry. Not a newcomer to revolution, her first love being telecommunications, having launched Australia’s first internet café at it is now recreated at the National Communication Museum as a cybercafé.
As a renowned digital & AI strategist she cultivates innovation with emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, Machine Learning (ML), Mixed Reality (MR). Previously Chief Digital Advisor at Microsoft. She was appointed an AI Ambassador and continues to advocate for ways that AI and XR can build better futures for our work and communities. She is an active supporter of Women in AI, having judged the Women in AI awards since 2001.

Gaby Carney is a Senior Fellow at the UTS Human Technology Institute where she advises on AI governance. She has published a range of guidance on AI regulation and governance, and has advised organisations on their governance frameworks. She is currently leading HTI’s work on an Australian Government funded project to support small to medium enterprises to adopt AI safely and responsibly. Prior to HTI, Gaby was a Partner at international management consulting firm, Partners in Performance, a senior executive in the NSW Government, and a commercial lawyer.

Qinghua Lu

Dr Qinghua Lu is a principal research scientist and leads the Responsible AI science team at CSIRO's Data61, Australia. She was the winner of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Women in AI Trailblazer Award. Dr. Lu contributes to several key AI safety initiatives, including Australia’s AI Safety Standard, Frontier Model Forum, OECD.AI’s trustworthy AI metrics, International Working Group on AI Metrology, and EU General-Purpose AI Code of Practice.
Dr. Lu has published over 150 papers in premier international journals/conferences. She is an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on AI and Engineering Applications of AI. She serves as Area Chair of Software Engineering for AI at ICSE’26, and the Program Chair for AIware’25 and CAIN’25. She is also the program committee member or reviewers of top-tier conferences, including IJCAI, AAAI, NeurIPS, ICML, ICSE, FSE, ICSA, etc.
Her recent paper titled “Towards a Roadmap on Software Engineering for Responsible AI” won the ACM Distinguished Paper Award. Dr. Lu’s book, “Responsible AI: Best Practices for Creating Trustworthy AI Systems”, published by Pearson Addison-Wesley in December 2023, is the world’s first responsible AI book for practitioners and became Amazon’s No. 3 AI book bestseller. Her forthcoming book, “Engineering AI Systems: Architecture and DevOps Essentials” is set to be published by Pearson Addison-Wesley in March 2025.

Gemma Kyle

Gemma was appointed as Chief Risk Officer in November 2018 and leads the Enterprise Risk function which includes investment risk, operational risk, business continuity, financial crime, compliance and conduct.
Gemma has over 25 years’ experience in risk management and governance across multiple industries including government, engineering and financial services. She is known for her ability to drive organisational change and achieve business objectives in complex and dynamic environments.
Prior to joining Rest, Gemma held senior positions at MLC Life Insurance, MLC Wealth, Parsons Brinkerhoff and Federal Treasury.
She is a Director on the Board of the Fund Executives Association Limited.
Gemma holds a Master of Arts from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Economics, Social Science (First Class Honours) from the University of Sydney.

Iain Hart

Iain Hart has extensive work experience in various companies and roles related to risk management, compliance, cyber security, and technology operations. Iain has held leadership positions in organizations such as Crown Resorts, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, ANZ, Macquarie Group, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Fairfax Digital, and Telstra BigPond. Throughout their career, they have been responsible for implementing technology risk management strategies, advising stakeholders on risk mitigation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO27001.
Iain Hart completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Macquarie University from 1990 to 1992. Iain then pursued an Associate Diploma in Financial Markets at the Securities Institute of Australia from 1991 to 1994. Later, they attended the MIT Sloan School of Management from 2007 to 2009, where they earned a degree in IT Governance and Leadership, specializing in Corporate Leadership.

Jane Couchman

Jane Couchman is a senior executive in the banking and financial services industry specialising in, Legal, Risk & Governance disciplines with over 30 years’ experience. She is the current Risk Leader of the year of the Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA). She has had executive management roles in legal, risk & compliance, governance & advocacy, regulatory strategy, and corporate sustainability roles.
Jane has led group wide Governance Culture and Accountability transformation programs at Macquarie Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia(CBA) and Aware as well as numerous strategic transformations, such as, the risk integration of Asgard and BT Financial Group with the merging of St George and Westpac banks; and the recent digital transformation with the internalisation of the administration platform at Aware Super. She has led multiple global and enterprise level regulatory reforms, including financial crimes, cybersecurity, and operational resilience as well as major regulatory remediation programs, including multiple EUs and the APRA Prudential Review of CBA.
She is currently the Chief Risk Officer, and Group Executive, Sustainability at Aware Super, and prior, was the Executive General Manager, Compliance at the CBA, Global COO, Compliance and Head of Enterprise Compliance at Macquarie Bank, Chief Risk Officer at BT Financial Group, and General Counsel at Perpetual.
Jane is a director of the key superannuation industry body, Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), and an NSW Committee member, of Women in Super (WiS). She has held, and continue to hold positions on company boards, and board committees and not for profit boards.

Most recently, she led data-driven decision-making advancements as the Head of Data Science at Auckland Transport.
